For seminar 3, our group decided to research how nutrient loads affect freshwater bodies in the Everglades. Given the recent hurricane season and the effect hurricanes like Milton had on Florida, we decided to explore how certain aspects of water quality, like nitrogen and phosphorus, are affected in intense tropical cyclones. It was also meant to raise awareness of the harm nutrient overloading has on aquatic ecosystems and how it affects marine wildlife, and it was a call to action to help lower these nutrient load levels. We hope people enjoy our research’s appearance and the overall realistic goals of protecting marine wildlife from human endeavors like agriculture perseverance with nutrient-overloaded fertilizers and backed-up sewage system, which affects water quality significantly when hurricanes hit.
