Our project aims to observe the interactions between the architecture and overall layout of NYC, and nature. Through our collage, we observed how natural elements are able to co-exist with man-made elements in a way that the beauty of both can be equally appreciated. In constructing our collage, we have included lines from poems that encompass the moods we worked to convey throughout our carefully selected images. We hope that New Yorkers will be able to take a moment to appreciate the trade-off of plants and buildings that surround them, and truly think about what these features signify. The images we selected include scenery from Astoria Park as well as Central Park, and elements of nature from the source (leaves, twigs, and stones).

How did completing your project help you explore the role of arts in the lives of New Yorkers and their communities?

This project allowed us to observe parts of the city that we may have overlooked previously. It led us to realize that both architecture and nature play a huge role in New York communities as their engagement with one another signifies the fact that polar opposites can co-exist. In a similar sense, a mirage of different people exist together in the melting pot that is New York. ArchiNature enlightened us and taught us the importance of stopping to appreciate the scenery that we are lucky enough to be surrounded by. This scenery alone is art in itself that must be acknowledged.
