Our project was all about the relationship between Broadway and New York City. Broadway has been alongside everything in New York, including the ups and downs. Broadway is just as much a part of the fabric of New York as the Statue of Liberty or the Yankee hat, and this project highlights that. Broadway symbolizes New York, with its success (and failures) mirroring the city. Starting in 1866, Broadway has been loved by locals and attracts tourists from all across the world, underscoring its importance not just here in NYC, but also globally. From its impact on the youth to its role in Hollywood, Broadway is a massive yet underappreciated part of New York that should be held on a pedestal and applauded.

How did completing your project help you explore the role of arts in the lives of New Yorkers and their communities?
This project helped me learn more about Broadway and, in turn, more about the life of a New Yorker who frequents theatre. As someone who has not made an effort to watch any shows on Broadway, I learned about the appeal and the deep, vibrant culture of this community.
