Our project explores the relationship between park size, habitat variety, and species diversity in NYC parks. Using BioBlitz and iNaturalist data collected between 2020–2024, we analyzed species counts for plants, insects, and total biodiversity across various parks. Our results show a strong positive correlation between park size and species richness, with R² values of 0.92–0.97 indicating that larger parks generally host more species. However, we also found that some smaller parks support notable biodiversity, suggesting that other factors, such as habitat variety, urban connectivity, and surrounding environmental conditions, play a crucial role. Our findings highlight the value of urban green spaces, big and small, in supporting wildlife.
