Exploring the Art of Kosher Bakeries in NYC

Challah Bread

Group Members: Yaron Rahmani

Nothing beats walking into a kosher bakery and smelling the freshly baked challah.
Kosher bakeries offer various baked goods originating from Jewish communities around the world. I chose to focus on this because I want to share the mouth-watering flavors and rich traditions of the cuisine I love dearly with a broader audience. I hope to bridge cultural divides and help others find an appreciation for the creativity that has gone into kosher baking for generations.

How did completing your project help you explore the role of arts in the lives of New Yorkers and their communities?

Completing this project helped me see how each Jewish community relates to a different art in the form of baked goods based on their ethnic background. Food as an art is something that is often overlooked and exploring the different types of baked goods in kosher bakeries helped me appreciate them more.
