Exploring the Edges of Ailey: Art, Inspiration, and Impact

Group Members: Priya Saxena (work also done by Rami E. and Alexis R.)

In this project, my classmates Rami, Alexis, and I visited the Whitney Museum as cultural reporters to explore the new Edges of Ailey art exhibit. Our goal was to create a slideshow that captured the experience to share with Seminar I. It was a unique opportunity for all of us, as we don’t live near Manhattan and rarely have chances to visit exhibits like this. Fortunately, one of my classmates had been to the Whitney before and was eager to explore this interactive exhibit, which offers so much to see and do.
The exhibit is divided into three sections: the left room, the middle section, and the right room. The middle section features art pieces arranged in an oval, with parts of each side being a part of the other sections. Overhead, videos played, showcasing Alvin Ailey’s performances and his profound contributions to dance.
The experience was truly immersive. As we walked through the exhibit, examining the meaning behind the art pieces and their thoughtful organization, we gained a deeper understanding of Ailey’s life, his inspirations, and his remarkable impact on the dance industry.
