NYC Subway Art Location and Identity: “My Coney Island Baby” & Bus Stop Ideas

Picture of part of the "My Coney Island Baby" instillation.

Group Members: Rajit Ahmed, Abbah Fatima, and Imer Inestroza Herre

Our project focused on exploring a famous NYC Subway art installation, and our group chose to highlight Robert Wilson’s “My Coney Island Baby” installation at Coney Island.

As part of our research, we researched the community of Coney Island, examining how the artwork reflects the area’s vibrant culture. We then used Generative AI to design a bus stop inspired by the subway art as well as incorporated features that could enhance the experience of waiting at the bus stop.

How did completing your project help you explore the role of arts in the lives of New Yorkers and their communities?

The goal of our project was to show how art in subway stations and bus stops serves as a representation of the people in those communities. It also provides an opportunity for people to pause, witness the artwork, and appreciate the people who have shaped the community they are standing at.
