Angie’s Personal Mask

A white paper face mask adorned with flowers along the top, with clown-ish features on the face and musical symbols on the cheeks.

Group Members: Angie Mekki, Sophia Hart, Amanda Alencastro, Wilson Wu, Adriana Ndokaj

I wanted to make my mask look quite asymmetrical and unconventional to symbolize my unconventional way of thinking and struggle to fit in. My interests in music and flowers are basically plastered on there because they’re things I speak about the most.

How did completing your project help you explore the role of arts in the lives of New Yorkers and their communities?

This project allowed us to understand that art is about communicating something to an audience, and since museums are not super accessible to all New Yorkers, it would be better to create art and share it with those who also want to feel understood in a piece of artwork.
