Central Park Conversations Project

The Mall and Literary Walk

Group Members: Katherine Chen, Selina Cheng, Jennifer Huang, Jayden Williams

New York City is well known for being the center of cultural diversity. Among all the famous landmarks of the city, Central Park is one of the most visited urban parks in the country. However, with the inclusion of professions, age, ethnicities, etc, the question of whether Central Park reflects New York City’s renowned diversity throughout certain parts of the day is brought up. To get an idea of the different demographics of Central Park, we interviewed a small sample of visitors throughout the morning and afternoon.

Based on our research, we were able to show that Central Park serves as a calm reprieve from the chaos of urban living. Central Park serves as a place to reconnect with nature and relax, whether with friends and family or not. Central Park was also demonstrated as an important centerpiece of New York City, with many of the participants found to be locals. We also learned much about the sheer diversity of people one can meet and learn about in New York City.
