This project is a review of Cecily Brown’s exhibit titled “The 5 Senses” found in Chelsea at 534 W 21st St. This review discusses the general themes of the show, what makes the pieces alluring/interesting, and analyzes a few specific pieces. How did completing your project help you explore the role of arts in the lives of New Yorkers and their communities?
New York is a wonderful space for artists to collaborate and showcase their works. Chelsea in particular is filled with galleries in a small area. Some of them are auction galleries, meaning the work is for sale, and others are just for public viewing. By having these art installations open to the public, artists who may not be able to break through into larger art institutions and museums can still participate in the New York art scene, and New Yorkers can enrich their lives by taking a stop at one of these galleries.
