How did completing your project help you explore the role of arts in the lives of New Yorkers and their communities?
Completing Missed Connections deepened our understanding of how art weaves into the fabric of New York and its communities. While filming, we noticed how many people were intrigued by what we were creating, sparking conversations about our project and the themes of connection and chance. This curiosity that we saw highlighted how storytelling resonates deeply with New Yorkers, and even in a bustling city, they're drawn to performance & art. We also drew inspiration from classic New York rom-coms, aiming to craft scenes that felt ubiquitous, moments that anyone could picture happening in their own lives. From subway platforms to cozy libraries and green parks, we intentionally used NYC settings to root the story in the city’s unique rhythm. These locations, paired with our narrative, not only celebrated the city’s role as a backdrop for countless love stories but also reminded us how art brings people together through shared experiences.
