Exploring Bird Diversity Across NYC Parks During Global Big Day

Group Members: Alondra Nunez, Maria Bebawy, Aditta Kirttania, and Emily Lenahan

Our project features bird numbers across parks in NYC. Focusing on Global Big Day, a selected day in May that is a 24 hr study period of birds, we collected species variety and the ecology of eight parks to find any contributing factors between the two. Utilizing eBird and the NYC Nature Map, we discovered that it was not just the amount of acreage that allowed for more birds in a park; ecological makeups of parks was a heavy contributing factor for promoting bird life.
