Review of Cells by Jesse Krimes

Group Members: Morgan Rose Bent

Jesse Krimes combines important discussion about the United States’ prison system with the ideas of animal cruelty and disease. His work is beautiful and compelling, but looking past the outwards appearance reveals upsetting and uncomfortable topics he believes we all must face.

How did completing your project help you explore the role of arts in the lives of New Yorkers and their communities?

Jesse Krimes artwork brings people in the prison system into the light. He himself knows what it's like to be stuck and forgotten about there. It can be difficult for formerly incarcerated people to reincorporate into their community. His pieces are meant to signal a reminder for redemption.
